The Fundraiser EPA is the end-point assessment for this level 3 standard.
This standard relates to charitable causes as opposed to raising commercial funds. The role is usually based within a fundraising team within a charitable or not-for-profit organisation, or as a sole function in a small organisation. But fundraisers may also work in agencies that provide fundraising consultation and services.
Funds are raised from a range of sources including but not limited to trusts and foundations, digital media, major donors, corporate partners, raffles and lotteries, payroll giving, events, community engagement, individual giving, gift aid and legacies. Fundraisers also raise awareness and non-financial support for their charitable cause. As part of a fundraising team, they will contribute to the implementation and execution of the fundraising strategy, projects and plans. They will deliver day-to-day fundraising activities that provide the essential income and engagement with supporters for the delivery of the charitable purpose of the organisation. They will carry out research for opportunities and analyse and provide data to support any proposals for developing new fundraising activities.
In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with a range of internal teams such as (but are not limited to) marketing, media, finance, service delivery, volunteering, advocacy, IT and procurement. Externally, a fundraiser would interact, either autonomously or as part of a team, with clients, donors, supporters and prospective supporters of their charitable cause (corporate partners, high net worth individuals and the general public), as well as other stakeholders including suppliers, other charities, the media and professional bodies.

- Completion of a portfolio
- A case for support pitch with presentation, questions and answers: The apprentice will agree a live case support pitch with their employer, develop the case in writing and present to our assessor in a 45-minute session that includes 15 minutes of subsequent questions.
- Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence: A 75-minute professional discussion with our assessor based on the apprentice’s portfolio which they submit to us at gateway.
Indicative duration of assessment
The EPA will typically be completed within two months once the gateway requirements have been met.
