Assessing qualifications and customised units through centre-devised assignments
The majority of AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group qualifications and all AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group customised units are assessed through centre-devised assignments. The evidence of achievement produced by learners is often presented within Portfolios of Achievement which incorporate each learner’s response to the assignments undertaken on their course.
Portfolio Presentation
It is important that tutors support the award of credit by ensuring that the content and presentation of Portfolios of Achievement clearly identify what has and what has not been achieved, and which evidence relates to which units.
The AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group 'Portfolio Building - A Guide to Getting it Right' document provides useful guidance on the required content and presentation of Portfolios of Achievement.
Alternatively the 'Using ePortfolios - A Guide to Getting it Right' document provides equivalent guidance in relation to evidence presented in a digital format.
Recording Achievement
It is essential that centres include a tracking document which maps learning outcomes against the learner’s work in every portfolio. We recommend that you use a standard 'Unit Tracking Sheet' for this purpose.
Additional tracking / recording documents are provided for forms of assessment which do not produce tangible evidence of achievement.
Further support for centers in relation to assessing and evidencing learner achievement can be obtained through our external quality assurance page.
