What you need to know about AIM Counselling qualifications
Our suite of counselling qualifications has been developed by specialists for both aspiring and practicing counsellors
Learner development
Learners are assessed using reflective learning techniques to encourage self-development. This method of self-development is common practice in the counselling industry, so learners and employers are familiar with the process.
Assessments already in place
To save centers/colleges time and resources, AIM assessments are all set up and ready to go but can also be contextualised.
Blended practice optional module
An optional ‘blended practice’ module in the level 4 diploma enables learners to develop an understanding of working with clients online as well as face to face ‘in the room’. It encourages learners to explore the impact that this way of working may have on practitioner and client.
Relevant and up-to-date
AIM understands the need to keep all its qualification up-to-date and as a regulated body, it is required to undertake a comprehensive periodic review of its qualifications.
Our counselling qualifications were fully reviewed in 2019 and as part of this review, we worked with recognised practicing professionals to write, validate and quality assure our qualifications.
As part of this revalidation we made some important changes to respond to the needs of the industry:
- We updated language and content throughout the qualifications
- We provided a comprehensive syllabus to support the delivery of qualifications
- We developed ready-made assessment materials to be used by learners
Applied therapeutic courses
To address the ever-diverse counselling profession, we continue to develop applied therapeutic courses to support professionals working in the counselling arena or as practicing counsellors.
In summary
- Assessments use ‘reflective learning’ techniques to encourage self-development, mirroring common practice in the counselling industry.
- Focus on applied practice, not just theory.
- Developed in partnership with professional, practicing counsellors who are experts who understand the industry.
- Qualifications at level 3 and above are graded to recognise a learner’s strengths.
- The level 3 counselling qualification carries UCAS points giving learners the choice to use their tariff points to access university or continue to the AIM Level 4 Diploma in Counselling Practice.
- Level 4 qualification has been designed (as far as possible) to meet the registration and membership requirements of both the National Counselling Society (NCS) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
